Aim began his musical journey back in 1989 spinning uptempo breakbeats which he sold from his own shop. After a brief flirtation as a drummer in an indie band, he set about becoming a solo artist in his own right and signed to Grand Central in 1995 after bumping into Mark Rae in Fat City Records. Aim is Grand Central’s dancefloor destroyer and his releases have been lauded by both press and DJs alike.
Aim (aka Andy Turner) has been responsible for many of the early 12"s on Grand Central which have helped carve out a niche for the label. From ‘Concentrate’ to ‘Loopdreams’ his early work has been the subject of countless emails and requests from fans and DJ’s, the reason being that most of these 12"s are nigh impossible to get hold of.
The obvious solution would be to order a repress, sit back and reap the rewards. The funny thing is, the originals don’t exist anymore, destroyed in a freak accident at the pressing plant – Grand Central only released 1,000 copies of each, making these 12"s the most requested and rarest records we have (or don’t have as the case may be).
Enter ‘Means Of Production’ a limited edition CD and double LP that not only bridges the format gap but for the first time brings together all these seminal records which you never had a chance in hell of hearing anywhere except the dancefloor.
Aim effortlessly proves that from these early 12”s to his debut album ‘Coldwater Music’ and then to his second album ‘Hinterland’ he continues to evolve both as a DJ/poducer and as a musician. His latest venture is the Aim lve band, a ten-piece collective. The band completed a sell out UK tour in the autumn. The LP format is limited to 2,000 copies.
