Sebastian San aus Halluin Cedex in Frankreich ist in den Neunzigern als Macher von Shield Records mit Kirk DeGiorgio, Kevin Saunderson und Fabrice Lig in Kontakt gekommen, und Lig animierte ihn dazu, selbst Musik zu machen. Trotzdem ist auf Sans Debüt-Album „Duel“ die musikalische Mischung wieder stilbildend, die auch schon für zahllose frühere Gigolo-Releases maßgeblich war: Industrial, die synthetische Popmusik der Achtziger und Detroit-Techno. Anders als Gigolos Peaktime-Sound von Fischerspooner oder X-Lover gibt sich "Duel" zurückgenommen, fast bescheiden. Sebastian Sans arte-povera-Electro-Tracks bestehen aus ganz wenigen Elementen, auch mit Kompression und Hall geht er sparsam um. In ihrer Losgelöstheit wirken die Songs einsam und fast ein wenig traurig. Obwohl kaum echte Pointen in diesen Tracks auszumachen sind, ist es im Gestus sympathische Musik. (groove)
