Perc opens up the Vertigo releases with his most single-minded track in years. Based around a looping, lo-fi groove BCG is both a perfect DJ tool and an unforgettable lead track. Occasional blasts of distortion break up the rhythmic flow but this is no clichéd white noise soaked epic, just pure heads-down basement techno. First up to remix BCG is Scotland's Forward Strategy Group, who thanks to their releases on FSG and Retail & Leisure have soon won the support of such techno lynchpins as Marcel Dettmann and Surgeon. It is the latter's trademark Birmingham techno sound which proves to be the greatest influence on their productions. The FSG pair take the already rough 'n' ready BCG and give it a proper shoeing, adding layers of scything percussion for the most intense moment of the record. The B-side is given over to Berlin-based Milton Bradley whose Do Not Resist The Beat imprint was one of the breakout labels of 2009. Milton shows his class across 2 very different mixes. The first sprinkles elements of Perc's original mix over a classic dub-influenced Do Not Resist The Beat groove, whilst the 2nd surprises everyone transforming BCG into a slice of warm broken-beat electronica. This is a remix that looks as much at early Warp releases as it does anything coming out of Berlin right now and will appeal far beyond the dance floor.
