Rockwell steps up for his first Shogun release since signing exclusively with the label and shows just what hot property he is with ‘DJ Friendly Unit Shifter’ b/w ‘Fakin’ Jacks’. Oozing versatility, Rockwell consistently achieves a fine balance between dance floor tear-out and the production intricacies that have gained his music so much attention – this release is no exception, serious business. * As featured on Friction’s recent Ministry Of Sound mix album, ‘DJ Friendly Unit Shifter’ is a beast, intro’ing with distorted synth teases that drop suddenly into a deep pulsing sub-bass, warming the blood as it chases cheeky rhythmic glitches. A funk-induced warping bass hits against the velvety-smooth, while underlying shakes and edits highlight the constant motion in the music – a fine characteristic of the new Shogun warrior. Then wait for the breakdown that gives some respite before things roll out again, big stinking nasty! * ‘Fakin’ Jacks’ reveals Rockwell’s advanced and futuristic sound - a technical masterpiece. The side-chained synth intro delves into an impossibly deep, dark, devilish bass. Whiplash strikes and cool synth stabs drop over unforgiving hits and FX, accompanied by Rockwell’s trademark heavily-edited drums and basslines that make for an astounding track. An impressive feat, and not a surprise to learn then, that ‘Fakin’ Jacks’ features over 100 tracks of percussion and took over three months to write! * DJ support from Friction, Icicle, Alix Perez, SpectraSoul, Ulterior Motive & more.
